The "new Bing" is currently invitation-only, but you can preview its functionality.
Since Microsoft revealed a new and enhanced version of their search engine linked with OpenAI's ChatGPT technology, a limited number of people have been offered early access to test it. Currently, there is a waiting list to gain access when Microsoft expands Bing to additional people in the coming weeks. But if you're desperate to see how it works, you can now view a desktop demo.
How to access the Bing preview
On the Bing homepage, directly beneath the search bar is a preview. The preview shows a prompt in a conversational approach saying, "I need to host a dinner party for 6 individuals who are vegetarian. Can you propose a 3-course menu including a chocolate dessert?" Click the "Test it" button below the query to view the answer it generates.
Test out the new Bing integration with ChatGPT.
Click the arrows on the side of the screen to explore different questions like "I'm arranging a trip for our anniversary in September. What are some destinations we can go that are within a 3 hour trip from London Heathrow?" and "Arts and crafts ideas, with directions for a child using only cardboard boxes, plastic bottles, paper, and string." Click "Test it" to check out the answers to these prompts.
AI-generated replies display next to traditional search results.
How to view other Bing examples
Next to the "Try it" button, you may click "Learn more" to see the entire list of prompts Bing is demo-ing. In addition to the three prompts described above, you can test more prompts. Mouse over the tile of each sample topic to view the following prompts.
Click on these instances to see Bing's AI-generated response.
Click "Test it on Bing" to see how Bing answers them.
"Plan me a workout for my arms and abs with no situps and no gym equipment. That should only take 30 minutes"
"Create a poem with rhymes for my eight-year-old son, Jake. He loves pets and facts about the ocean"
"I went fishing in Bighorn in Montana and I would like to go fishing in the Florida Keys in the Spring. What do I need to do differently to prepare?"
"Create a story for youngsters about a dog who lives on the moon"
"Build code to find the Fibonacci sequence in Python"
"What cars should I consider buying that are AWD, go 0-60 in less than 6 seconds, seat 6 or more, and have great reviews?"
"Create a five-question pop music trivia quiz that I can play with my buddies."
"How do I pick the greatest dog breed for me? Is it preferable to buy or adopt?"
"I enjoy electronic music and plan to attend my first music event this year. Do you have any recommendations or tips for me?"
When you click the prompt, you are redirected to a new page with regular search results on the left and Bing's AI chatbot response on the right. You are given precise step-by-step directions for various ab and arm workouts, including the number of sets and repetitions, an explanation of proper form, and the muscles targeted by each exercise. The answers contain footnotes that connect out to the source of the information.
It's worth mentioning that it includes crunches as a part of the workout, which is kind of like a small sit-up, so Bing obviously still has some work to do.
How to speak with Bing
At the end of the response, the preview proposes different follow-up questions, including "Can you show me how to do push up?" Clicking on the questions opens a chat window where you may go through your question in real time with Bing's chatbot. Currently, clicking on the questions just reveals a demo dialogue of the vegetarian dinner party menu question, but it provides you a sense of what to expect.
Preview a conversation with Bing's artificial intelligence chatbot.
How is Bing's early access testing going?
Understandably, early access users are putting the new Bing to the test, and reports posted online reveal varied results. One user's prompt was reportedly answered with some harsh gaslighting, while another seems to have touched a nerve with Bing upon being asked whether if was sentient. Yeah, not exactly the friendly Bing showing up in the preview. However, it's intriguing to watch where the technology goes in the coming weeks.
